Treatment for Flat Feet in St. Catharines

Treatment of Pes Planus and Pes Cavus

The conditions of Pes Planus (flat feet) and Pes Cavus (high arches) can often lead to foot pain and more. Because sufferers must compensate for each condition, it puts strain on the legs and hips as well. Here is a little more information about each condition:

Pes Planus
Some of the common symptoms of Pes Planus are arch pain, pain on the inside of your ankle, and deformation of the inside of your shoes. Flat feet present themselves with little or no arch, which can lead to improper alignment when walking and running. Many patients find that correction with custom orthotics can be beneficial in creating proper alignment and alleviating pain.

Pes Cavus
The opposite of Pes Planus, Pes Cavus is characterized by a high instep and arch. The cause may be hereditary or acquired and can cause pain due to metatarsal compression. Some other symptoms include shoe-fitting problems, lateral ankle instability, and arthritis. Because of the misalignment and stress in upper joints due to high arches, stress fractures in the leg bones and knee pain can develop.
